I was inspired to write this story because of our dog, Phantom. He had an avocado addiction! Every night under the cover of darkness he would sneak over to the neighbours property and steal an avocado (or three!) from their tree. Trotting home with his nightly prize he would peel the avocado skin off with his teeth, eat the flesh and leave behind the stone, skin, and green smudges all over the carpet!
This book is dedicated to Phantom, and dogs everywhere, who bring love and laughter to our homes xx

My 5yo and 3yo have had “Tutti Frutti” read to them so many times that they recite the words out loud to me when I’m too slow turning the page! They have huge grins on their faces because they know which fruit is coming up. Also, they love the repetitive rhymes. They both can’t read yet so it really brings joy to me to hear them memorising the words in the story.

I have been so impressed with Rachel Weston’s previous work; ‘Bumblebees Have Smelly Feet’ followed by ‘Hello! Kia ora! Welcome new friend!’ and now there is her latest bright and beautiful, ‘Boo goes Tutti Frutti’. Lovely rhyming makes this a delight to read aloud and illustrator Scott Tulloch has done a brilliant job of bringing the humour in this book to life. The little touches of ‘extra’ in the illustrations are lovely, from the blue fruit-themed wallpaper, Boo’s muddy footprints and enormous bone, family portraits and Mavis McQueen’s collection of snails. The nice addition of a Christmas tree means this would make a lovely gift this Christmas. The cover is gorgeous, and I am reminded of Brazilian ‘bombshell’ Carmen Miranda when she appeared as Dorita in the 1943 movie, ‘The Gang’s All Here’. Boo would have fit right in place during musical number, ‘The Lady in the Tutti Frutti Hat’ with his avocado, kiwifruit, plum and strawberry hat ensemble. But I am sure he would have caused a bit of musical havoc on the set as he does in this book with his fruit-loving ways, thank goodness for Sue who saves the day with 0800WECLEAN4U! Boo is a delightful character, and this is a lovely book for both adults and children – I wonder what the wee corgi will get up to next…
